Hey all. I've heard and seen a bunch of coins exhibiting what is termed a "railroad rim" and I believe this is one. I haven't found that they get much of a premium; has anyone else? What grade would you give it? Thanks a bunch!
'Railroad rim' is a bit of a misnomer because when a coin is struck partially out of the collar (which is what happens when a 'railroad rim' is created) the evidence is found on the edge, not the rim. Part of the edge is struck in the collar and the part that was outside the collar when the coin was struck mushrooms out, hence the term 'railroad rim'. I see no evidence of a railroad rim on your coin; perhaps a bit of MAD but no railroad rim.
Yes! I remember that too! thanks! Thank you Hobo that's it. MAD. How many brain farts am I allowed again? MAD's don't add to the value any right? What kind of grade would you give it? Lots of luster even through the toning. Small ding in front of Lincoln's tie. I think it's in the MS range... maybe 61-63... What do you think?
