1927 wheat back penny (2.55g?)

    Been wondering about the damage to this. With the black coloring in the pits, even along the edges, what can cause it? A friend who collects coins saw it and weighed it, and you see the picture, 2.55g, when it should be 3g at least, right?
    Opinions plz?

    looks like environmental damage, probably an acidic environment which ate away at it causing the pits an low weight..

    I agree. Only something acidic would cause a grainy appearance like on your coin.
