Found this in my register yesterday. At a glance, I assumed it was a 26-D, but it sure looks like a 26-S. I grade it approximately G-4 - agreed? If so, any idea on value?

    Thanks.

That looks like it was treated in some way to bring out the date... far too much wear on parts of that for it to have a date.

    JMHO.

Any other comments? I can't comment as to the date treatment - never seen one that has been treated. But since it cost me five cents, no big deal.

Doesn't look treated to me but I can't see an "S". Still a nice find. Love finding coins like that.

As someone who searches rolls, I always enjoy the prospect of finding such coins. But, i always wonder how people miss such coins. Even before my interest in coins, I would pull out wheats and anything else that looked different.

It looks like it is from the City by the Bay to me. Not quite sure on the date though. BTW I found a '26-S cent lying in the dirt, it had been there awhile, just in front of Mission San Jose about 20 years ago.

Cool find, I'd say it's closer to being AG condition though.

I would say no acid treatment.

Nice find in pocket change. I got a buffalo in change 2 years ago and was amazed to find one in circulation. I think it is by far the best US coin design ever. Even in AG it looks great.

I agree, the buffalo is one of the best designed US coins....my favorite anyway. I surely do not think that is a restored date, and yes, I think it is an S. Great find.

Thanks. The story of how I found it is cool. The company I work for sold my store, and transferred me to a new store. I found the coin within five minutes of starting my first shift on register at the new store!
