I just bought about 300 mercurys and was going through them checking dates and mints when I came upon a 1926 that looks like it has a 1 between the 2 and the 6. The 6 is definitely mishapen and the 1 next to it is nearly full. Has anyone seen an example of this? If it's an overdate, how much would it be worth? Any and all input is appreciated. I'm adding a scan, but I'm not sure it will show you great detail. I may take it to the coin shop.
Hard to tell from the pics, but to me it looks like something scraped off a part of the 6 to make what looks like a 1.
That's what I thought at first too. Once I got it magnified I could see the 6 is fully formed and slightly mishapen with the extra 1 setting right next to it, fully raised from the surface. My scanner stinks, that picture doesn't really show it in detail. I'm going to have someone look at it.
Either post mint damage, or a small die chip, or something similar in the striking process. Either way, it's not a futuristic coin dated 19216. Sorry.
