A seller is auctioning off one 1926 D Peace silver dollar and in the description of the Peace, they state that the coin is a Vam 1-B "extra hair". I have never heard of this before, have you? If you have how can you really tell ? If so, got any pictures ? I'm posting this thread early this morning to ask the experts because I can not get on Vamworld, "Site maintenance", and really interested if there is such a thing.
There is a 1B on vam world, just no pic. of it . Here's what vam says about 1B: Its part of the elite 30 and fall 28th on that scale . Heres what the vam says: Die Breaks Lower Middle of Hair ..
I've copied the picture to show you. This is the best picture I can get. Hope it helps. Just how do you know about the hair ? This is the most interesting Vam I've heard of.
I love Peace Dollars. It's listed on vamworld. A plain 1926-D in this condition should be about $28.00. A MS-62 should be around $150-$160. If the sellers coin is not graded, I'd pass.
Looking at the picture @bear32211 posted, I don't see the die break in the hair. If you follow a line straight up on the coin, not the image, from the designer's initials (the coin is rotated slightly in the picture), you will hit a recessed area in the hair before a large raised area and then the tiara band. In this recessed area, there should be a die break from 7:00 to 1:00, cutting across the hair, and it's thick enough where you should be able to see it easily on a worn coin like this. Not sure why the content of the page on VAMWorld is missing. Perhaps wikispaces hasn't complete woken up yet.
The last page revision vanished the copy; the next-newest revision still has the copy. I tried to revert it but got an error; perhaps they've come to their senses and limited editing privileges.
