I'd say 58.... +1 maybe, but i think there are some things on this one that could keep it from MS land,,, or could be overlooked, any given day ya never know ; )
Nope....it's GUESS the grade. LOL This is one of those coins that go either way, depending on the day. The only evidence of wear rub I can see in hand is the hair, shoulder and outside lapel. I don't see it on the cheek, jaw or inside lapel....which are the high points that typically define an AU wheat. On the reverse I see zero evidence of rub. In hand, the spotting is worse than the pics show. My grade: AU-62RB
This angled picture brings out what you can't see on the perpendicular picture....even though it makes the coin look much worse than it actually is.
But wait!! Isn't 1925D another one of those dates where they just didn't care about the quality of the strike at the mint? What is appearing as wear, might just be "grease filled" - the lock of hair just above the ear is looks well defined and that is usually first contact spot then triangulating with the cheek and jaw, correct? Yeah the spotting is the only thing dragging the grade down IMO nice coin, cl.............. errrrrr conserve that thing up!
Yes, the 25-D and S were some of the worst issues ever made. The dies were coming from Philly and the branch mints had a hard time getting fresh dies, so they over-used dies to keep up with production demands. They also often used excess die spacing and non-parallel dies so they produced some pretty poor quality cents. Really, there's no conservation that could help this coin AND I like it nice and dirty and original. I'm not touching this coin, no how, no way. Some coins are best left "as is"!
AU with a 60 up grade is just a little thing we do to explain certain coins on CT....it's just forum slang. ....and we like it!!
