I have always wanted this one. One of my guilty pleasures as a coin collector are coins depicting animals. Especially when those renditions are really well done and have character. And this one really delivers on that! The coin was made to help find the celebrations of 75 years of Statehood for California. There were 300,000 originally planned, about 150,000 minted, and half that number were melted down while the other half sold. The coin depicts the heritage of California, with a gold prospector panning for gold, and the grizzly bear, the animal on the flag of the state.
I won this one for a FUN exhibit years ago. Here the piece in my commeorative type set. NGC graded it MS-64.
