dizzyone - are you cleaning these coins ? Based on the pics it appears you are. I strongly advise you not to do that in the future.

Absolutely not... no cleaning on my part. This is exactly the way I found it. Other than my fingers touching it, nothing else has. This is a scanned image so maybe that would account for the look?

I am not sure this coin has been cleaned. Can you post a better scan? What color is the coin when compared to a new coin?

btw: You should not be touching the coin with your fingers particularly if there is some original color on it. The acids and oils from your skin will eventually eat into the coin.

How else are you supposed to look through them? Rubber gloves?

Here is a scan of a few more I picked out.

No. Cotton gloves are preferred. If they have any original color on them, fingers will remove it eventually. If you are going to use your fingers, at least only touch the sides.

Some of those look pretty badly corroded. However, the 1912-D and 1917 appear to be worth something. My monitor is not the best, but the 17- might be $5 and the 12-D should be $15+ if the back isn't too bad.

    Right to left..

    1925D - 1907 - 1911 - 1914

    1930D - 1912D - 1913 - 1916

    1916 - 1914 - 1910 - 1924

    1913 - 1917 - 1914 - 1920

the value for those is probaly around $6.75, with the 1912D being $5 of that.

Is the 1907 a Indian Head? If it is what is the MM? By looking at the scan I don't see one.

I'm thinking he meant 1917. I see a 1917 in there, but don't see an indian head cent. :D

Your estimate of $6.75 could be a little low as that 1912-D looks like it might be a high grade coin. Numismedia lists 1912-D in XF-40 at $51.75. Of course I would never pay that much for an XF semi-key Lincoln cent myself but some people out there might.

I agree that the 1912-D is worth more, but I believe that there is some corrosion on it. I cannot tell for sure, but that is my guess. That 1917 (and it is 1917 not 1907) appears to be a real nice coin - if it has not been cleaned. Assuming no cleaning, It could be worth more than $6.75.

can you post a picture of the 1912D by itself?

I know.:D The coin's appear to be a good choice to evaluate, individual coin's picture's are better.

The 1812 D is a very nice coin, from what I can tell from the pics a possible VF-30 coin, but like said earlier possible corrosion and what might be some light cleaning around 1-2 o clock on the coin, but still probably a nice coin. I'd personally like to see an individual pic of it myself. The 1914 looks easily an XF, but harshly cleaned unfortunatly. :(

I wish I could......... my 9 year old grandson was checking out the pennies with me last week and unfortunately, the 1912D is "suddenly" missing from the rest. Was I that stupid to think we could have something in common collecting coins? I was hoping his interest would be more than the value of spending. I'm still hoping it will turn back up. I realize its only a penny but....... there is a lesson to be learned here. From now on he doesn't get anywhere near ANY of the coins and currency.
