1924 Peace Dollar, is it a mint error?

So I found this coin in a box of silver dollars, and it looks like it has been shot, and the ends of the pellet have been filed down so that they are flush. It looks basically like there is a pellet of lead hammered into it and it shows on both sides of the coin...mint error, or did something happen to it at some point during its circulation?

Let me know if you want to see other pictures, or something?

I have no idea about Peace Dollars, but my guess would be that it was once on a necklace and someone later filled the hole.

Keep in mind that mine is only a guess. Wait for the Peace people to give you the real answer!

The coin shows pretty heavy hairlines in addition to the repaired hole. Without doubt, the coin had a hole drilled into it at some point and then at a later date someone had the hole crudely repaired.

I didn't even think of that...guess it depends on what type of necklace/pendant, because I have a morgan still set in it's jewelry casing, but that doesn't have a hole just a setting I guess...thanks!

    You got it!

Holed and repaired (if that is what we want to call it). This coin has had a rough life. It's only redeeming quality is that it is silver.
