,Hello everyone I came upon 1924 d wheat cent in the "spare change" cup that I swapped out for another penny. When I got home, I found out that it was a Semi Key Date and I saw that it had a bazaar line/spot that on the reverse that looked like it might be a Mint Error. Also do you do you guys thank it would be worth having it graded. pics Angle shot I can post more pics if needed . coinstars
it appears to be a die gouge and did occur to the die before striking, but I don't believe it would enhance the value, might even decrease the value to sell. I think the obverse is damaged through circulation, and suspect it is enough not ot grade. Grading cost ( depending on postage, etc. ) might be more than half of the value as I see a VF detail. Welcome to the forum! they are extremely hard to find in circulation today. Jim
That is damage to the die. I remember these being written up years ago in the Numismatic Scrapbook. There is a strongly defined edge running down through the N an a weaker edge running from the rim between the U and B and down through the O. The area between these two is slightly lower than the rest of the coin. (as can be seen in the last two pictures. The are to the right of the strongly defined edge seems to have been pressed lower on the die because the details on that side, especially as you approach the center are unusually weak.
