In 1923 Philadelphia made nearly 75 million cents.
Some of them get really worn from circulation and general usage abuse since that was 95 years ago. Imagine what you'll look like when you are 95.

 

Doubled die edge?

 

This is what I'm going to look like when I'm 95 years old.

 

Pretty nice. Just don't y'urn too much for that look.

Could you post close ups on the mintmark? Could just be pmd.

 

That's zinc rot.
The plating split during minting and the elements are corroding the zinc.

The 1923 looks normal to me, what do you mean by DDE? The 1988 D is not an error, just zinc rot as previously stated.

Ah, okay however I don't see any evidence of a doubled die on the 1923.

 

The 1923 is worn and cleaned.
