Hi all! Does anyone know much about the 1923 Groszy. There’s the regular issue, a proof, and then there’s the occupation version (zinc). How do you tell the difference between the regular and proofs? PCGS has a cameo proof (obvious proofs), but there are also appear to be non-cameo proofs... I’m asking because I have two, and they look different... I’ll post pics soon.
Proofs (of any country and type) will generally have a stronger strike that shows more detail, a well-defined rim as a result of the stronger strike, and mirrored surfaces the majority of the time.
That’s where I’m getting confused with the mirrored surface. PCGS has one that looked more matte than mirror.
Now, here is where I’m getting confused... error? Proof? Variety (can’t find anything)? Nothing? They’re both magnetic, so not zinc Nazi occupation version, right? The first thing that threw me off was the thickness and color (figured toning)... then I thought that maybe the letters were also thicker on one. Then it looked like one coins letters were closer to the rim So I zoomed in. The letters definitely appear closer in the second (right one). Also, the S seems to have a serif, and the L is longer.... Thoughts?
