I bought a half roll of 1923D Peace dollars that came from a "bag" of uncirculated Peace Dollars. The coins are either AU or MS60 depending on the generosity of the grader. Later as I inspected the coins more closely I have noticed that seven of the ten coins have very clear die cracks. Most of the crack are on the obverse. What kind of effect do the die cracks have on these coin? Thanks, Fred.
Depending on the collector, and the size/number of the crack(s), it may either increase, or decrease, the value. Or do you mean structurally affect the coin?
I meant the overall value. Some of the cracks go half way or more around the edge of the coin ... some are smaller. I guess I could try and list them on Ebay?
Die cracks will not decrease the value of a coin. If you posted some pictures, someone knowledgeable might be able to help you out.
As SCNuss already stated, die cracks can affect value in either direction. Some collectors find die cracks to be a detraction on a coin and thus would not purchase a coin with them at all. Others may find die cracks interesting & appealing and thus be willing to pay a small premium for a coin with them. To still others it may not matter either way.
