Hi, all -- I've been curious if anybody has some educated guess as to what the population of the 1922 Plain cent (with strong reverse) may be. Given that only a shade more than 7 million 1922 cents were ever struck, and not all could have survived, I imagine the population can't be that large at all. Only a fraction of 1922 cents were made without a mintmark visible. I'm thinking the total population of currently existing 1922 plains can't be much more than 5,000 to 10,000, given that these were not saved from circulation right away and that only 1 die combination actually created the coveted 1922 plain strong reverse. Any thoughts?
PCGS has certified 3500+ and NGC 1800+. I would guess the total out there would be more toward the 10,000.
