While going through some of my late father's belongings, I found some coin collecting books. I know next to nothing about coins, but what little research I have done points to the 1922 penny being potentially valuable. I found 2 of those in these books, and I've included a scan of each. If it's not too much trouble, could someone fill me in a little more on the detail of what I have?
It's valuable if there is no mint mark on it. If there is a "weak" D, I think it still has some kind of premium. Hopefully a real expert replies since I am not one.
Your images are not large enough and are too grainy for us to tell much about your coins. Please provide good, clear, larger photos if possible. There are three 1922 No D Cents varieties that are distinguished by the reverse. If you can post good photos (especially of the reverses) someone here should be able to help you determine what you have.
The one on the right has a mintmark so it won't carry the high premium. The one on the left I can't tell for sure so post up close pics of it first.
Thanks for the feedback. Guess it's obvious I'm not much of a photographer either! Here are a few more pics. Maybe these will work better?
The first one may or may not be a "weak D", but the premium for the coin in that condition is small. It might go for $15 if it is not the weak D and $20 if it is. BTW, if it is a weak D, the reverse would be rotated slightly CCW. The second one is a 1922-D in probably VF condition worth $20 - $25.
I see a faint "D" mint mark in that last picture. If you're able to take a picture with your phone, get close enough to make it crisp, then crop it so only the coin is in the picture. As stated, good pictures of the front and back will be helpful to see if it has other markings that are visible with the weak/no D varieties. Your pictures should look like this- This is your coin, cropped.
I have one also, but the no D penny is where the money is. The left looks like a weak D, where as the one on the right is just a 1922D. I got mine with other coins but have no intrest in lincoln cents so I plan on parting with it.
