    Good day
need some help here....I have a 1922 silver peace dollar. On the front the word trust is spelled with a V instead of a U.... is this normal?
Is there some reason as to why this was stamped this way...'
If anyone knows or could let me know where I could get more info it would be of great help.

All peace dollars (and standing liberty quarters) have the Roman V used as a U. Someone else will have to answer the "why" part.

As far as I know the reason was because at the time they were trying to return to a classical form in the legend. Nearly all old European coins had their legends in Latin and the letter U was always written as V.

    Yup, that’s the reason.

Sort of fits in with the whole art-deco or art-nouveau era. If you look at the style of lettering on the Peace dollar, it sort of imitates that style (or one of them, anyway, I am not an expert on this stuff). And, that whacky V/U fits with the style.

I love the PD design . I only wish it were a higher relief and more detailed.
