I have had a number of coins in my possesion for quite some time now and have actually sat down and looked some of them up as to there history and production and rarity so on and so forth. Only a couple I have ran into problems finding out about and one one them is a 1922 Peace dollar. I actually did a google search on it and a top result brought me here into a forum to a guys posting on one and it confused me to be honest. The coin I posess has a D mint marking on it and the nape of the neck runs into the nine almost joining at the center at the number. one of the rays goes through the N of the word one on the back of the coin and has a prominate raised lip. Now where Im confused is after reading the thread I have no knowledge of coins. Was this a commonly manufactured coin or is it more on the rare side of things?

Images would be necessary to tell you if you have some sort of error or variety. But a normal 1922 D is not a rare coin, but does have value depending on grade. Welcome to Coin Talk.

Worth a minimum of about $25 ( if real) but we need photos of what you describe.

One of the more common of the short series in terms of mintage by year and mint mark with a mintage of 15,063,000.
Not knowing how it has been cared for only value that can be determined is that it it contains a little over 3/4 of a ounce of silver.
If by chance it is mint state (never touched or worn in any way) and of very high grade it could be worth hundreds of dollars.

The markings you describe "9". "ONE", Lip are normal as described for the 22D. There are several varieties ( Called VAMs) for the 22D, but a photo might help, but assume it is a common one.

    Welcome to the Forum!
