Someone one to sale me this 1922 no D cent. They said that they just needed cash and was asking $100 for it. I use my loupe to look at it and don't see any marks of a D but do see scratches. The coin itself has some damages on it. If it is a No D coin $100 seem low even for a poor grade. I took some pic & told them I have to think about it because there's lot of fake around. So can anyone tell me if this is the real deal?
I agree, and agree with RLM. I cannot see how this coin, with the date like that, is not a fake. When you look at a coin, look at it holistically, not just the tiny area you are most interested in. Most fakers nowadays will spend a lot of time where people will be looking, and maybe not as much everywhere else. With ALL lincoln cent keys, nowadays I would not consider buying one unless slabbed. Way too many fakes. I have a nice XF 14d unslabbed, but I bought it decades ago. I am sure if I ever slab it I would be better served to get is slabbed first.
One clue I have mentioned before, and it persistently appears on Chinese fakes, the obverse rim is way too wide. A defect also seen on Morgan Dollars.
Yes, you should slab it before you slab it, haha. I'm pretty sure you meant "sell it", but just poking some fun.
Thanks everyone for the input. Like the saying goes if it seems to good to but true then it's usually is.
