I know that the most expensive and sought after die pair in the 1922 no D is the die pair 2 and that a no D die pair 3 is still worth a significant amount of money, but none of the value guides seem to list the values of a die pair 1 no d. can anyone shed any light on to why this is, or any value information they may have on that die pair?

I believe that it is becuase it is deemed no more than a greased die.
It still sells for a lot of $, but it is generally not worth the money.

But, still a neat piece to own.

All of the price lists I have seen only state no "D" weak reverse. They do not distinguish between dies #1, #3 or #4.

rlm, IIRC the die pair #1 and die pair #3 are both weak reverses. #2 is when they changed the reverse die giving us a strong reverse, but I believe that die pair #1 is the same obverse as die pair #2. I also believe IIRC that die pair #1 will show the die deterioration from a weak D all of the way to a No-D.

But then again, I don't know where I read this so it could be complete crap... ;)

I have no clue what IIRC is.

Die pair #1, #3, and #4 are all weak reverses. Die pair #1 has nothing in common with Die pair #2. They have different markers to distinguish them. i.e. Die Pair #1 = The second 2 in date is weaker than the first 2; Die Pair #2 = Second 2 in date is sharper than the first 2. And there are other exclusionary differences. See http://lincolncentresource.com/1922Ddievarieties.html.

And, yes, die pair #1 will show a weak D all of the way to a No-D as do die pair #3 and die pair #4. However, it is not due to die deterioration but grease filling the "D".
