OK, just want to get a feel what the audience thinks on this one. It is pretty worn and I'm thinking a weak "D" but hoping not. Let me know please.
You need to look at "The Cherrypickers' guide to Rare Die Varieties" by Bil Fivaz and J. T. Stanton. The only other way is to send it in to be graded $$$. -O)
Everything I see says it is die #3, but the best proof is the rotation. Is the back rotated about 15º CCW? See http://lincolncentresource.com/1922Ddievarieties.html. As for the weak versus no "D", I am not sure whether or not I can see it, but the definition is that no evidence can be seen with 10 X power. It should be located just below the bottom of the 9 and with the horizontal line pretty close to the middle of the 9 and 2 - about were I have drawn it in this picture.
I apologize for the pics, yes the reverse is rotated CCW. Under 40x magnification I see no trace of a "D". I'm just trying to convince myself that a roll find MUST be a weak "D" as to not get disappointed.
There is nothing wrong with your pics. It is just that trying to picture something that has to be turned to the right angle with the right light angle is not the easiest thing to do. BTW, watch out that you don't over magnify it and miss the obvious.
