I am a bit nervous after posting this coin on Ebay ( No Solicitations implied ) when a highly respected VAM connoisseur jumped in with a substantial bid ( auto bidding all bidders so far ). Am I missing some special VAM with this coin I do not see. Granted there are some die cracks but I am not seeing anything special. Maybe this is a high grade of a common VAM. Thoughts ??
Why did you put the coin on eBay? Because you wanted to sell it! So a VAM collector put in a high bid. All I see are die cracks. PCGS didn't list it as a VAM. Maybe the perspective buyer likes the die cracks. Maybe he thinks he can resubmit it fir those cracks. Does it matter? Not to me and neither should it to you. Be happy you're getting a good price. You can't buy at the lowest price and you can't sell at the highest price.
From those pictures, I don't see anything that would make me jump on it. It looks like it could have graded higher if not for the inclusion on the reverse, but I'd like better pictures to make that call.
This is a dupe for me so Yes it is for sale … OH my … I just looked at the 1921-p List of VAMS on VAMWORLD … these VAM collectors are a patient bunch. There is definitely a Die Clash between the right wing and wreath. I DID miss stuff but identifying it is a monumental task I think NOT for me hahah.
I could see the clash. Plenty of 1921s have that clash, and it's minor, barely worthly of mention. I was looking for die gouges, pitting, or a sign of denticle impressions and didn't spot anything. Attributing 1921 is difficult, and not for the faint of heart. Nevertheless, some collectors are actually trying to put together a set of all 1921 die pairs. I think they're nuts, they know I think they're nuts, and we're both good with that. Collect what you enjoy, otherwise what's the point?
I don't see anything that would cause me any concern. John has chimed in and if he did not see anything, I would not worry too much. I did find the Morgan listed on eBay and it's current bid is quite a bit below typical market for this grade and mm. It could be that the bidder the OP was talking about, simply liked the slag on the reverse. To me it would be a turn off, but that's just me. As far as grade, it looks accurate and I would not worry about a possible upgradeable coin slipping by.
It looks like an accurately graded VAM-52 to me. No mention of letter transfer as a result of the clash so I'm not sure what the top bidder has in mind...
