I was researching some coins that I came across in my Mom's dresser, and I came across some Morgan silver dollars. I read that the 1921 is a scarce coin, but I am not sure what that means as far as a value. Anyone out there that can give me some advice, I would appreciate it. No mint mark on any of this year's coins. I do have a 1900-O, an 1881-O, an 1883-O and a 1901-O as well, if anyone can give me advice on those as well. Thanks! Mark
I'm assuming you're taking about Morgans because of all of the other dates you mentioned, if so, 1921 isn't a scarce date at all. And I think the other dates are all common as well. Not much value over melt
First off, welcome to the forum. Now, in order to determine value we need to see some pictures of what you've got. The '21 Morgan is by no means a scarce dollar coin, however, if it's the Peace dollar that you have..........well, different story. Post some pics, we'd love to see 'em.
1921 coin I went back to the website I was at previously and after reading it again, I realized that the 1921 silver dollar they referred to was indeed the Peace dollar, and what I have are the Morgan dollars. Being new to this, I failed to realize more than one dollar was minted during 1921. I have a followup question for those more experienced. Some of the coins I have seem to have good detail, but could use cleaning, or is it best to leave them as is? I will post a few pictures to show what I have so you can advise what if anything to do at this point. I guess most of mine aren't very scarce, but pretty neat to look at! Mark
Hey Mark... you will soon learn that "cleaning" is generally considered a "no-no" in the numismatic community, though if someone told me not to clean a coin, I would do it just to tick them off (especially if Rick told me). So it's best to just leave 'em alone and enjoy them for what they are.
