Hey C.T. Folks, I went on a VAM Quest yesterday and came back with some pretty nice ones! A Coin Dealer that I regularly buy from, has no time or the eye to search for VAM's and most other Variety and Errors, so I usually discover some nice stuff when I go through his' boxes and/or trays of coins. Well, I found one in particular that I am intrigued about! It is a 1921-D Morgan with about 80% of the circumference of both the coin's Obverse and Reverse has significant Die Cracks near breaks that are on the upper (or outer, whichever you prefer) edge of the Lettering and Stars. On the Obverse, the Die Cracks run through the Date and go all the way around the coin to around the second (I don't have the coin with me, so I am trying to go on memory and I may be off somewhat) or third Star below UNUM. The funny thing is, when you flip it over to the Reverse, the Die Cracks are almost in the same identical areas as the Obverse but 180 degrees out. On the Obverse, the coin has the "N" and "ST" Clashing from the Reverse Die. On the Reverse, the coin has Liberty's hairline and bun and lip area Clashing from the Obverse Die but also has some sort of Clashing at the top of the Eagle's head and along the underside of the Eagle's neck which look like horns. So I am calling this the Horned Eagle VAM (in case it is a new Variety). There is also Clashing to the right of the Eagle's left leg and a few other areas as well. This is also one of the "Scribbling Die Scratches" Varieties as well. I forgot to mention that it is extremely hard to get Die Cracks and some Clash Marks to show up in pictures of Morgan Silver Dollars! However, I may try to take some to see if they show up. If not, I will see if I can recreate the Die Cracks and Clashing in red pencil using the Paint program and post the edited pics. My problem is that I cannot identify which VAM it is and I am not sure as to whether this is a new Variety or a known Variety! With all of the VAM Varieties for the 1921-D Morgan, I wonder how that anyone could sort through them and tell which one this is or tell if it is not on any VAM list! Any help that you all could provide, would be very appreciated! Thanks...Frank
