So I have a 1921d Morgan dollar and when I put it under the scope I found all these what I believe is die crack's I'm attaching all the photos I can of the die crack's and the mint mark d has something going on there and so dose the star by the neck the one pint is really stressed out please help me I'm going bonkers?? And I will also put in the comments a photo eddited trace out of all the die cracks
There's at least 150 VAMs for that date and mintmark. Your pictures wont' be good enough, in thumbnails especially to identify what VAM it is, if it's even a VAM. probably going by feature would be quicker than any other way. http://ec2-13-58-222-16.us-east-2.compute.amazonaws.com/wiki/1921-D_Attribution_Guide but you need the whole coin obverse and reverse as large as you can, then close ups of possible identifying marks, I can't do anything with these small thumbnails. I like a lighted magnifier desk lamp to turn it into a dinner plate myself.
ALL Morgan and Peace dollars are VAM's but the 1921-D+P Morgans are the most frustrating to attribute. They were the last of mine to attribute and after a lengthy attempt I asked advice from the other members of VamWorld. Most are attributed through the identification of the scribbles and die polishing lines. You need excellent light, a microscope that doesn't pixellate with extreme close-up and a huge amount of patience. A lot can be discovered around the legs, feet and wings on the reverse. This, for example, a 1921 took a long time until finally matched some tiny die scratches. Good luck
…and I would like to add, go to VamWorld.com. Be careful you don’t overwhelm yourself when you do, there is a mountain of things to read and learn. Don’t be surprised if there is no VAM assigned (VNA). Die cracks in and of themselves do not merit VAM assignment, but they do help you ID the die marriage if one is assigned. Good Luck and welcome to Coin Talk.
