I know this is tantamount to heresy, but I did a little experiment to see if I could breathe a little life into a pretty nice old commemorative that just came my way. This coin was in an old brown coin envelope and had all the characteristic “dryness/haziness” those types of envelopes seem to bring about. So, I decided to give it a VERY QUICK dip in eZest. We are talking 4 seconds tops. Then a thorough rinse and dry. Here are the results. After is on top, before is on the bottom. I know many disagree with the method, but I think the luster was enhanced. You may now proceed to attack me... I hope all are well.
It seems to have given some depth to the coin. Quite nice. I think the coin looks like copper in these photos.
Nice coin. If you sent it to a TPG, in your opinion, do you think it would straight grade or come back detailed?
I think it would straight grade. The surfaces now are better and more lustrous than they were prior to the swim.
