ok so I am new to this site but today I found a 1920 penny with the back just blank. I've been searching for coin errors for months now and never found anything as exciting as this lol well at less exciting for me. Can anyone tell me if I should be excited as I am?
First, welcome to the neighborhood @Tameka Thompson ! I think both of the guys are right. It's a combination of road rash and environmental damage. Chris
Years ago my Dad used to put a copper coins on top of a auto battery to help draw corrosion away from the terminals. After a bit of time they would look like your coin, not to bad on one side, but totaly gone on the other. Yours reminds me of that.
Well that's very disappointing but thank you for the info I still have a lot more to share with you all. Not sure if they are worthy but I will share them anyways!
Welcome to coin talk! Your coin exhibits what we call PMD (Post Mint Damage). It is not an error cent.
An error is when it leaves the mint that way and usually has value. When a coin is damaged after leaving the mint, it is not an error and usually does not have any extra value.
Ha, ha, funny! I was thinking along the same lines, but I want to be respectful of the participants here.
