1920 Buffalo Nickel With Large Reverse Cud

    Hey gang! I was going through a lot of buffalo nickels when I noticed this guy.

    Wow! Thats neat how it had a cud right over the denomination. Congrats!

    A cud is the result of a broken die. When part of the die breaks off the metal flows into the void when the coin is struck. This leaves what is on the bottom of the reverse of this coin.

    No that's part of the design. Notice the lack of the words five cents on the reverse.

    Too bad it didn't just keep the "five"
    Then it could be used like a NO CENTS V NICKEL.. AS a $5 piece... LOL

    LARGE AMOUNT OF CUD INDEED! NICE FIND THAT IS FOR SURE

    Wow! I've never seen a cud that big! :eek:

    These were tooled quite a bit (Hobo nickels), are you sure it isn't one of those?

    Yeah it's definitely a cud, the part in question is raised.
