I was moving into the new house I just bought and, in one of the closets I found a box that had some old coins in it. I found about 40 what looks like to me to be in perfect condition 1918 quarters that appear to have had a 7 stamped over or under the 8 and on the back there looks like a walking lady liberty. I also found 15 bills that have the face printed on both sides and 2 1955 pennies that have 2 of each number printed on them. and I was wondering if they are worth anything at all?
Post some pictures - the genuine articles could be worth some money, but the condition of each coin could(and will) make a difference. Plus it will help the experts determine if they are counterfeit.
Welcome to CT then you need to give me some of your luck. Your quarters are called standing liberty quarters. If you are describing them correctly, they are worth between $2000 and $150,000 EACH. Without pictures, all I can say from your description is that they would likely be in the 5 figure range. The pennies are called doubled dies and they are worth between $1000 and $50,000 EACH depending on the condition. I have no idea about the bills. You need to POST SOME PICTURES. PLEASE! Now for the bad news. My guess is that you stumbled into a counterfeit's house. There are less than certified by NGC and PCGS - and then you find 40 of them? That is probably 2-4% of the entire population.
That would be the find of the century if genuine, but I would bet my last dollar that they are counterfeit. The 18/17 quarters circulated heavily since the error wasn't recognized until later on, and 40 of them in mint condition hidden away in a box seems mighty suspicious. If genuine though, you have pretty much stumbled upon your retirement plan....akin to winning the lottery.
