I just wanted to show off my most recent purchase. I know its not alot but its the best grade of the 1917 type 1 that I could afford right now. These are harder to come by than what I thought. I included a few pics.

Hey, IndianHead, I picked this one up about 2 weeks ago (also for $36). It's in very similar condition (which I grade about VF-20).

I really like the SLQs and the 1917 in particular (original design and all that).

Indianhead, that SLQ is about the same grade as the one in my collection, and I paid a bit more (one month ago). SLQ's are beautiful coins, thanks for sharing.

SLQs are absolutely beautiful coins. It would be great if we could have coins designed like this today.

Thats a very nice SLQ also. I thought the grade to be about VF20 for mine. Its very hard to get any coin in this series before 1925 with a full date I believe unless you go to an AU. Anything less and you still have great detail in the design but only a partial date. Its too bad they didnt think of recessing the date at the beginning of the series.

Very nice! You did pretty darn good. SLQ are very pretty coins. especially with a full date. Very nice.

    nice buy, keep going.
I'm still looking for a nice 1923 S, I have one but it may be a fake, still, nice piece.
I also paid for it as a fake, so, it fills the hole.
Now, start looking for that 1916! (Good luck).

:D I think its gonna be a long time before I can think about getting the 1916. I'd have to buy the wife a truck load of Longaberger baskets and do some sweet talking to get that one. lol

This is just my personal thinking, that a suspicious coin should never be placed in the same album where you have kept all other authentic coins. One bad coin can/will reduce the value of that entire set.

I will prefer leaving the hole unfilled or with a other common date coin of same type.

BTW, nice coin of his tough series. Personally I feel that this is the most beautiful coin US mint had issued. Congratulations!

Yup, I know just what you mean, although my wife would probably want two trucks full. I still kick my self but in 2000 I had the chance to buy a 1916 with the old photo cert from ANACS in a VG/F for $3000, but just, I don't know, couldn't do it...Oh well:(

Yea, $3000 dollars seems like alot to dish out for a single coin but its too bad we didnt have a crystal ball back then to see what they'd be worth just 7 years later. I just dont know how I'd justify to the wife that I need a $6000 dollar coin. Maybe if I just ask real nicely. :D
