The thing about the SLQ is that they are stunning in higher grades, but despicably ugly in anything below XF.

I am certainly glad that you don't have a strong opinion on these.

That is a stunning coin. the head is great, sheild is great. the drapery over the right leg is wonderful. Its hard to believe its real and not slabbed.

    Is that a recent purchase?

No I have had the coin for years now. I would love to slab it but not sure if its worth it. I have a hard time grading these coins. I know its pretty good but just not sure i think i paid 50 or 60 the guy i bought it from is a very good friend and I was young and he liked that he was helping a young boy get started. 20 years later he Still gives me great deals.

Well, I don't know about despicably ugly.... let's just say "not as beautiful". I love well-worn coins (in the eye of the beholder?); I really don't know why. Maybe they have their own "charm" or "personality", or maybe it's just the idea of their history. But more than likely it goes back to my early collecting years of the mid fifties, when I was pulling SLQ's out of circulation. They were all pretty beat up, but I managed to get most of them... and not a one graded higher than a fine. However, you are correct... they are stunning in high grade!

    nice half dollar design

The SLQ T1 design would make a nice half dollar.

    Very best

Let's just drop it. The mods have made their feelings clear...I don't want to upset them.

I agree - I like well corn coins and I see these all the time at the coin shop. I like the design - not many designs I don't like, especially in the higher grades. :)

Nice coin , if it were a half dollar it would be considered the most beautiful coin , not just one of the several most beautiful . I also think they wrecked MacNeils artwork with the change to type 2 .

I think it's a wonderful design. I love the type 1 SLQ. Can you imagine what it must have been like to have the SLQ and the Walking Liberty half circulating at the same. It would have been beautiful. I wouldn't have changed anything.

Don't worry about it. It wasn't relevant to the conversation.

Yeah, it must have been an amazing time. I even love the wheat back cent and don't forget the Morgan and Peace dollars were returning not long after that. I can't imagine how cool it would have been to see all those circulating at once.
