    Hello

I have recently come across this standing liberty quarter and have a question about its condition. Is the gouge above the date considered damage? The rest of the coin looks uncirculated.

    Thank you

Could be damage- there is a very small raised piece of metal at the bottom of the gouge. Let's ask @paddyman98.
What grade did the slab assign?

I actually didn't receive the coin in a slab. This is the holder it came in, but now that you mention it the holder looks like the center of a slab. Perhaps it originally came out of a slab.

Yeah, that's a PCGS slab. It looks like you also have the exterior part judging from the plastic on the outside of the inner circle.

That is actually just the plastic sleeve it came in. Here are the original pictures before I cropped them.

So, likely cracked out of a Details slab?

In addition to the gouge above the date, I see some sort of hit to the rim right of the date, what looks like a scrape to the obverse rim at 3 o'clock, and some haloing on the reverse that makes me think it was cleaned.

I can't tell from these photos whether that flattening up the leg is wear or strike weakness.

    Still a coin I wouldn't be ashamed of, but I don't think it's uncirculated, and it's certainly not problem-free.

    Thank you,
    Thank you,

I initially had the same question about the flattening of the leg.

Glad I have finally made an account on here. I have many novice questions left and look forward to learning along the way.

At the end of the day this may not be my best purchase. Whats that one saying.... Experience is something you get after you need it.

Unless the lighting is fooling me, it also looks like a gouge on Liberty's nose. ouch.

The head is actually OK. I think it could have been at least been given the FH designation.

I would agree. She does deserve an “FH”.
