I have a question, how did you just "come across" this quarter did you buy it?

    Thanks,
    Jacob

Nice looking coin. Rare to see these without a lot of wear.
Need an expert to tell you but it looks real to this amateur.

LOL. :) I thought it looked real too. I thought at first glance it was a type 1. I just don't see how the chain mail can not be more evident, with the small amount of wear.

The 3 stars under the eagle is the Type 2.

Really interesting. Everything is type 2 except the chain mail. Laurel branch and hair style are both type 2 as well

This is just a normal 1917 Type 2 that suffers from both a mushy strike and wear, along with photos that hide the remaining detail. So while it appears that the armor is missing, you can clearly see a line across her neck which is the neckline of the chainmail. That line would not be present at all on a Type 1.

The chain mail isn't very deep and is in low relief. The slightest bit of wear takes any that was there off. Three stars under the eagle and hair in a bun is Type II.

If you blow up the image and look closely you can see the "square" edge of the chain mail across her chest and up over the shoulders. So it is there. Type 2 all the way.

The chainmail is visible. It's a typical type 2. Nice coin.
