I am feeling like this is just damage. I figured as long as I was looking through pennies I'd post this. Is there anyway this could have happened at the mint? I dont see how but I wanted to ask. At first this "line" just looked like parking lot damage or something but looking closer, its "raised" and connected to abe in a weird way. Could a die break cause something like this??? Its a raised line of copper running from abes chin (consistently the same height as his chin too) down through the 1 in the date. Ive never see anything like this....although I dont see alot anyway.

I'll go with just damage. A scratch will leave raised edges along the edges.

its so odd to look at because theres no like indentation in the coin. That dark you see is a shadow that runs along the "plateau". Its even flat on the top of it. So weird. Its amazing how creative damage can be lol. Its so raised that when I run my fingernail into it, it catches the ridge.

Damage or no damage, Error or no error this is so worn it has zero premium. Worth 1 cent

It has all the classic signs of damage. A gouge with metal displaced is damage.

I would offer a $1.00 for such a coin. Add it to my album labled PMD Examples. ;)

Ohhhh, noooooosss, Im not one bit concerned with any $$ value. right away the color tells me this thing sat in acid somewhere somehow anyway. I run across these alot here for some reason. That poop clay color alone gives a big thumbs down when I see the edge in a roll or a pile of pennies. I keep pretty much anything in my "jars" and unprofessional storage containers and will keep this one....even though there isnt any good reason too except im the weirdo that thinks its cool. I have a little bit of chemistry knowledge from work and background and these little metal things I like to hunt and collect will NEVER be this color from normal "stored" environmental conditions...unless that penny was in a parking lot on Venus for a few seconds before being found. I bet if you look on ETSY for a coin long enough, you will find a Venus coin somewhere and Im only barely kidding.

Not that anyone cares but I find part of this "hunt" of course is to find something rare and valuable. Truth is I will spend more time and money than anything I will likely find. for me its not ultimately about finding monetary value otherwise I would have quit doing this a long time ago once I realized the true "odds" of that happening. Its the hunt thats fun. Posting finds and getting ripped a little and enjoying it all. For some reason, I like imagining the "journey" a penny has taken. I always tell my daughter "if this penny could talk" what would it say about its life? when holding a 1891 penny, thats 128 year story. Wars, depressions....sitting in a sewer for 79 years being unseen, who knows. I know you guys hate seeing damage pennies and the random nerds who come here and insist its a mint issue but I love looking at those pennies trying to determine what happened to them. Some can be discarded as "parking lot" but some give clues to their journey. Ive seen some of you guys mention things like "oh, thats a laundry coin" because of some tiny detail and thats cool as hell that you have mastered your craft enough to be able to SEE that. You take your skill kind of nonchalantly at times . May seem trivial but its very admirable. All these coins have a story and on the occasion they give a clue to what it was, I just think its sort of interesting.

Any penny at any given time in your hand could have been the difference between someone having a home or not, a meal or not...being safe or not. We see it as just a penny but it represents everything and its impossible to know what the impact of that one specific little coin had on someone. ....or some idiot just threw it on the ground because he didnt want change in his pocket.

Ok, Im done , LOL, no more writing this morning. Sorry!
