I just bought this off of ebay for $0.99+ shipping. It's a 1917 GERMAN EMPIRE 10 Pfennig Zinc Coin, or so it says. Anyone know the value and, or grade. I spotted a guy on line who is selling one for in XF condition for $250. http://www.germancoins.com/empire.html It says it's rare. Is it true? Any comments? I'm also wondering what differentiates a Km-25 from a Km-26. I've searched google for about 3 hours now and its my birthday tomorrow, well i guess today so, hope to hear from anyone.
the one you have is KM 25 which has a plain border around the eagle and is common. The KM 26 has a beaded border around the eagle, like KM 20, which is made of iron instead of zinc which is more rare. Richard
A similar dated coin question appeared here a few weeks back. Yours is KM # 26 in Zinc and is worth around $0.10 to $0.20,in Fine , Mintage 75 million KM#25 is similar to KM #20 and has a Beaded Border The rare one is KM#20 1916 with no mintmark. Happy Birthdayfor tomorrow.
1917 with no mintmark can only be either KM#25 or KM#26 Krause says KM#25 has a beaded border similar to KM#20 Yours has no beaded border so it must be KM #26.
Does anyone know of any books that concentrate specifically on German coins that they would recommend?
