You can learn about design and creation of the new silver coins in 1916 in the book “Renaissance of American Coinage 1916-1921.” It has photos of all the patterns and information from original sources that is not available elsewhere.

Thanks guys - I was more curious about this coin than anything. I didn't know it existed, and did a double take when viewing the picture.

Cool pattern half. I definitely wouldn't buy it on Ebay from that seller, and I probably wouldn't pay that much for it anywhere- but it is super cool.

yeh, and the weird thing is that seller has low feedback and is selling a fortune worth of coins: http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/supecool

Which is immediately suspicious, in my book. The guy might have the stuff - but he might be "borrowing" pictures from other sources, and trying to run a scam. Or, they might be counterfeits. Unfortunately, legitimate new dealers often get the bum rap on Ebay because of all the counterfeiters.

Are there a lot of counterfeiters on ebay? I wonder if this place started a new account after getting too much bad feedback.

The tag on the back of the coins points to this place: http://www.rlhe.net It looks like all of their stuff is overpriced. The site itself borrows some images from pcgs.com...

I see the feedback as 100% , whichin itself is kinda suspicious .

I call this the "retirement" scam... just sell a few of those high end coins (which the buyers never see), grab the bucks and retire to "parts unknown".

I think the seller is a legitimate high profile dealer and not a scammer.

Agreed, nothing leads me to believe that this person is a scammer.
And to the OP, thanks for the link, those are some nice coins that, that seller has up for sale

You're respected in these parts Mark Feld so can you spill the beans if you know the dealer?

I haven't bid in ages myself but anyone selling such high dollar coins to START on ebay makes me real suspicious.

Unfortunately that is a twist that ebay has taken.

Agreed, and the fact is he may well be legimate... but you have to question why a dealer would list 1.5 million worth of coins on eBay as a new seller. I understand everyone has to start somewhere, but if you are a high profile dealer, wouldn't it make sense to state that on your auction page? At least have a "me" page and be ID verified; anything to give the buyer a little confidence. He does have good feedback for some coins over $1000; but that in itself would not be enough for me make an offer. As fas as the OP regarding rarity... is there any history on the sale of these pattern coins?

Everyone is just speculating here. There is nothing that should lead any of us to believe that he is a bad dealer, or a scam artist.
Tell ya' what, let's keep an eye on this seller, and I'd like to be proven wrong. I honestly just think that this guy is a dealer, with nice coins, and selling some of the things he can't sell on ebay, just to see if anybody will buy them.

Those are certainly fair points as far as I'm concerned. But the fact that you and I would do things differently doesn't say anything about the seller being a scammer. Based on the seller's location, I have a couple of ideas regarding who it is and am trying to verify it.

By the way, it is not that uncommon for some sellers to list very high value items, not with the intent of actually selling them on Ebay, but rather, in order to elicit inquiries and possibly obtain new clients.

I have viewed a handful of the 1916 pattern Walkers over the years and think they are really cool coins.
