Good Afternoon! What do you reckon a 1916-S Walker in F12 or F15 condition is worth? I'm getting some conflicting signals out there. Assume is a genuine coin, but raw. What's your opinion of the Liberty Walking Half market? Is it any hotter (or cooler) than the overall con "market?" Just curious from some experienced numismatics out there. After a long hiatus, I'm getting back into Liberty Walking collecting. It's a beautiful coin (perhaps one of the best ever minted). The key dates are 1916-S, and the 1921 PDS. Thanks. Regards Houston_Ray
I would have to say I would pay around $175 to $250 if it were a true f-12 there are alot of over graders out there. I have looked at a lot of walkers and found that 75% of the people over grade them. (maybee to inflate there value). I do have a 2 complete sets of them from G-6 to AU-50. OF course all my keys are G-6 or VG-8. I am looking to upgrade but I have not ran across what I want(VF-20). I do collect all the keys in AG to G that I run across I have 9-1916, 5-1916D, 5-1916S, 1-1921, 1-1921D, 4-1921S and 1-1938D these are my spares and are being used as trading coins.
I would buy it slabbed....if you looking to buy it I would suggest asking the seller to send it in to NGC or PCGS or ANACS and if it comes back ok then offering to pay for the grading fee too.... I not sure if this coin is faked much but since its a key in that good on grade...I would want it slabbed. Speedy
Speedy, that is good advice for the WLH keys. According to PCGS's "Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection" As to the question in the OP, assuming an accurate grade, no problems, and guaranteed authenticity then I would put the value at $150 to $220 depending on if it is closer to F12 or F15 and the quality of the eye appeal of the coin. If you are looking to sell in the near future I think sooner is better than later as I think prices are softening a little right now and a decline in the coin market in the next couple years is a real possibility, on the other hand, as a buyer I would wait for the expected price declines before I made any big coin purchases. Good luck! and have fun!
