Hi! I am not a coin collector but have a 1916 Detroit Convention Coin from my grandmother that I was wondering if it was worth anything? We also found a 192? canadian one cent and a 1/2 cent. I am not sure of the years. (I don't have them sitting here) I can't find a thing on the internet about the a Detroit Convention even happening. Thanks, Sophie
Howdy Sophie - Welcome to the Forum !! The item from Detroit isn't a coin, it's a medal. They were issued by a private company to commeorate some event. Some of them can have a certain value, but I have no idea if this one does or not. We do have some members who collect tokens and medals and may be able to provide you with additional info once they read this. As for the Canadian cent and the half cent, if you can post pics of them we can probably provide you with all the info you want. The value of a coin is largely dependent on the condition of the coin, and we need to he pics to be able to judge that.
cleaning thanks so much for the information! It has been so hard to get any. What should we clean the coins with? They are quite dirty right now. But we don't want to harm them. Sophie
DO NOT clean them - with anything, not even water. Cleaning a coin is considered to be damaging to the coin by most all collectors. It can reduce any value by up to 80%. Get some pics of the coins if you can
