What about a WHOLE SET just slightly nicer than this one? Good investment? Keepsake? Opinions please!!
AG 3probably 5- 600 for that one alone.. I think it was a bad idea to post it here, I think that auction would have picked up a few more bidders.
My AG3 is better looking than that one. I'd say FR2 . Man, what an ugly coin! lol Here's my AG3 to compare with....
Huh? Certainly NO intent on my part to cause the seller fewer bids; but, hey, as one highly respected forum mod says- "knowledge, share it!" Besides, I thought of bidding on it myself, and for anyone else who might be considering doing so, well just maybe this post (especially your response/opinion and those of others ) just might help any and all such bidders AND the seller too! As for me, Mama said, "Son, if you don't know, ASK!" So, I DID, and I appreciate your assessment! Plus, I'm anxiously looking forward to other opinions!!
You know, I've always thought the same thing. Do you think its possible to send it back to ANACS to have it regraded? Since its been cleaned I cant send it to PCGS or NGC. Just some inside information, I only paid $395 for mine.
Personally, I wouldnt bid more than 300 for the one in the original post. I've never seen one that bad.
Thanks, everyone!! It was really great getting opinions on this dime. The seller has a whole set up for sale right now on ebay, and some of the individual coins shown in the close-ups look a lot better than the 1916 D, maybe from G/VG to F something, in my far-less-than-expert opinion. Oh, and Snaz, (since you didn't think this post was a good idea to begin with), I hope you won't mind me continuing to be a :loud::mouth: by sharing the following :secret: info with the rest of the gang, LOL! So, for anyone interested, just sign on to ebay (www.ebay.com); enter the item number (180249607781) in their SEARCH feature, & have a look! But y'all knew how to do that already, 'cept for the #! Right? :vanish:
lol, not that I thought it was a bad idea, I just thought you were bidding on it. So there was going to be more competition on the auction.. which equals higher price you would have to pay. also.. :secret: when you click on the picture it takes you to the auction
I think that it is an added mintmark. Many 16-D dimes are intentionally damaged to hide the fact that they are not genuine. From the image, I would not bid on it as a genuine coin.
I also think this coin is altered. There were 4 dies used in minting the 16D with dies 2 & 3 having rpm's.The op's coin does not look like any of these. In my opinion the mintmark is not genuine looking to me so I would pass on this coin unless you collect altered coins.I have had 6 of these of which only 1 came back in a body bag.I was able to return it for a refund thankfully.I still have The Twins. Keep looking, there are a lot of genuine 16D's out there. John
I am not sure about that '16 D, but the 1942/1 bothers me more. It just dosen't look right. And, his closed auctions are funny!
The mint mark on the OP coin looks more like a S than a D but it still isn't in the correct location (IMO/duh). The seller should be notified it isn't authentic and if they don't pull the auction, then Ebay should be notified.
