I took some pictures of this mint mark.. but I can't get any closer to get it any bigger, I know some of you are able to enlarge it. It sure looks like a D to me.. I lightened it, did everything I know how to give you good clear pictures.. I need help..is this a D mint mark, on this 1916 Dime?

I agree with Roy.....its a little too clear for me....if the coin is as worn as it looks I would think the MM wouldn't show so much.

What do you mean the MM shows too much?? It doesn't look clear whatsoever to me. It looks worn and a little beat up in my opinion. I like it.

Seems like it's reprocessed, worked on, etc. If it's worn, the mintmark is unusually clear from its wear unless you can explain another form of theory to us.

Thanks for looking guys.. yes it's worn.. but that mint mark is real, as is the dime, the MM looks like the rest of the coin, (old). I just played with the exposure, and shadow, stuff like that to show it to you better. I wanted to make sure it was a worn D and not a worn S
So... now what...would I have to / would I need to get it, graded? slabed? what? in order to sell it, for what it's worth.. and by the way... any ideals as to it's worth, being as worn as it is?

I would send it in to Anacs. Go to there website and follow their directions. Congrats!

It looks too well for me...I've seen some 16-d's and the D never looks this clear most of the time.

Cho Cho....I'm not sure this is real....the one way to find out is to send it to NGC or ANACS....ANACS would be cheaper but I'm losing fath in them fast....NGC will bring more money IF it is real and IF you sell it.

I got it at a sale, here in Ky... It was in a bag with some other Mercury's, Seated Liberty's and Barbers. They are all nice coins, but when I seen this one, I thought.. Oh my gosh.. I did it...I buy these all the time and wish wish wish.. I think this time..my wish came true.

Don't you have to be a coin dealer to send it into NGC?

Have to say it looks like the real deal to me :smile If you compare the wear to the rest of the coin it seems to be in keeping, so Congrats are in order (I Hope LOL) great find :thumb:

A photo of another. It appears the mint mark on your's may be in the proper position and tilt Congrats, what a super find. I think you would be wasting your time and money to have this slabbed. It's got a small case of road rash and would get a very low net grade from ANACS and possibly even body bagged from NGC. Enjoy it and pass it on to someone else when your done with it for a tidy profit. It would be interesting to see a photo of the obverse.

I would send it to ANACS and see what they think. I doubt anyone would give you anywhere near the going rate, if it wasn't certified.

    bennypenny,

Even with the road rash, the dime may get a G-3 or better grade from ANACS! It all depends upon how good or how bad the Obverse is! If chocho ever wants to sell the coin, a certified, graded and slabbed 1916-D Dime in G-3 will fetch as much as $600 or more on eBay, while the same coin that isn't certified, graded and slabbed will probably fetch only $200 to $300. For a fee of only $25 (less if chocho has 10 or more coins certified and graded at the same time), you can't go wrong as it will significantly increase the value of the coin. That holds true, even if the coin comes back with only an AG grade!

chocho...ANACS is your best bet for getting the coin certified, grade and slabbed as NGC or PCGS will probably send it back as body-bagged due to the damage.

Good luck and congratulations on a very nice find!
