I am looking at a coin for my brother in law and noticed that there is a doubled die variety for 1916 Buffalo Nickels. Can someone help me and describe the diagnostics to identify this variety? I realize that it's a million to one shot, but I'd like to know the difference. Can anyone offer some help on this?
Hope this helps some. http://www.coinlink.com/News/us-coi...offered-at-heritages-long-beach-coin-auction/
Here is a close up of the date area. You can see there is a lot of separation between the two images of the date. If the coin is worn enough that the date is faint look at the ribbon just to the right of the date and compare it to another coin, you will see that it is doubled as well and even if it is worn down enough the doubling doesn't show the ribbon will be almost twice as wide as normal.
