I would say it's on the bubble for grading from a strictly economic POV. Depends on how much you have in it and if the cost of grading, shipping, etc. makes it worth it.
There are other reasons for slabbing it that may apply in your case but I leave that up to you.
Let us know what it comes back as.
Fortunately I’m only into it for $100. So, there’s enough wiggle room to send it in for grading. I’m just impatient and it seems the grading folks are really taking their time these days.
I personally would, simply because it’s in high grade and I’d be afraid to hold it in my hands out of fear of mishandling it and lowering the grade. I have a couple coins like that.
Does this forum offer official grading services?
We could do it!! I bet if we did a GTC for member submitted coins the average grade would be pretty close to a pcgs grade and better than some services.
Historically, I feel like folks on here are far more critical than the real graders. Must be the high res images at 100x zoom.
It is a beautiful coin, but I don’t think it would benefit from having it graded. I don’t think you would get the grade you are looking for.
In this photograph, it looks lightly cleaned. I don’t know if it is your picture, or the way the coin really is.
There's already been movement in that direction, but the member who was spearheading the effort gave up when we pointed out that the floor plan for his planned grading facility had left out restrooms.
is just the wait time that sucks
I’ve seen a lot of cleaned coins and a lot of possibly cleaned coins. I am 100% certain this coin is neither.
So have I. I would not be certain that it isn’t a details coin, given all the swirls and graininess. You buy lots of raw coins, and many of them are questionable. This photo makes me pretty sure that it has been at the very least, wiped.
I appreciate the markup, but I can't see anything in those areas that I can distinguish from pareidolia. The photo just doesn't appear to convey enough detail.
