Hey guys just wanted to share and get some opinions on this 1915 wheat penny I completely forgot that I had. Just from the pictures I provide you with l, what would you guys grade the penny. In my opinion it has some really fine detail and nice toning on the obverse and the reverse is nicely defined as well. There is some luster as well. Let me know what you guys think thank ya!
In average condition a 1915 plain wheat penny is worth about 2-3 dollars. This one is in average condition so its not worth very much. if it was in better condition it could be worth a lot more. I hope this helps
Thanks for the replies. It most definitely looks like someone tried to manipulate the toning as well. As far as details are concerned...the best grade you would give this coin is vf?
One of the things which was most difficult for me to acclimate to, when learning to grade Lincoln Wheats, was how much wear it took for "blurring" to begin in the lines on the wheat stalks. Unless weakly-struck, one can expect them to remain relatively sharp and fully separated into the upper VF range, and I see that happening in these images. The only other really variable tell on Lincolns is the hair - it's the only other place where sufficient detail exists to develop a feel for the "range" of wear. On your coin, the obverse (most visible in the last obverse pic) has been scrubbed so badly that I think the scrubbing itself removed detail, but that level of detail doesn't even reach the upper range of VF.
