Hi, My dad gave me some Peso's a few years ago. I know that this site is mainly for coins, but these Peso's are bills and I was wondering if anybody knew anything about them or could point me in a direction where I could get some help. I've included a few pictures of the bills so you could see what I mean. The first bill is a 5peso, Series G (I think) dated 1915, and the second bill is a 10peso, Series 1 (I believe, or it could be an "I" if they weren't using numerals) dated 1915. They are in mint, if not near mint condition. I asked a Mexican girl I work with to translate the bill for me and she confirmed that they were printed in 1915 and that Mexico doesn't even produce paper bills anymore and haven't for a LONG time. I asked my dad and he doesn't know anything about them except they're really old, so I turn to you. So, does anybody know anything about their collectable value, if anything? Or, whether or not there is even a market for them? My grandfather gave them to my dad, then from my dad to me, so even if they aren't worth anything that's okay with me because I'll still keep them because they're almost 100 years old!!! I'd just like to know a little more about what I have here. I've since encapsulated them the proper way because I am a picture framer so I can ensure that they stay (near) mint. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated so I could find out more about them. Thank You!!
I have no idea about this nice looking currency, nor value nor condition, I do not specialize in this, although I have something to say. When we say CoinTalk, we mean medals, tokens, coins, and currency. This is the best place to ask about currency! Always ask qustions, never be afraid, or ashamed. The more you ask the better you get. Also welcome to cointalk. I see this is your first post, so I suggest you wait for the currency/bill experts to come in.
Hey Thanks for the confidence boost! Turns out there is a collectors show in my town this weekend where people show their stamps, coins, and antiques collections. I plan on going to see if anybody can tell me anything too. Thanks Again!
These are not really Mexican. They are notes issued by two of the Mexican states during the Mexican Revolutionary War period (1910 - 1917) (One from Sonora, just below the US state of Arizona, and the other from Sinaloa, which is the next state down the Mexican west coast.) During that period the states were fighting against the central government. Each state kind of operated as it's own country. Eventually the war led to the overthrow of the Diaz Government and brought about what they now consider a democratic government (Which has been ruled by the same political party ever since except for one brief period). Along the way it created some colorful characters such as Pancho Villa, and even an invasion of Mexico by the US General Pershing under orders from Woodrow Wilson. And Mexico does still issue it's own paper money. My catalog is older but it lists issues as recent as 2006.
