Good morning folks. I’m working through some coins for the family and I came across a 1914 Buffalo Nickel that is weird. It was in a Dansco album for Buffalo Nickels. Does anyone know anything about this possibly being a wrong planchette error? Fake? It appears have the same coloring as a penny from the same time. Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

It might be an annealing error. These types of nickels are called black beauties, and they actually sell for quite a bit when they're graded.

Looks like a mint mark, which would make this a very valuable coin.
I can't really tell. Perhaps another clear photo of the mint mark area.

Is this possibly a nickel that was stored with corroding pennies? I want to be hopeful on this but it’d kinda be like hitting the lotto.

Let me explain this.. Let's say it was struck on a Cent Planchet then it would be the same size, weight and width of a Cent. Your Nickel looks normal, besides the dark color, so it's not on wrong Planchet.. Just Environmental Toning.

    Yes on environment.
And on the second photo I can see it is a Philly. Still decent, but no miracle.
Funny how in the 1st photo it looks like an S.
I don't think it is an over annealed planchet.
If the rim is the same color as the coin, it's environmental toning as Paddy says. Also, it is the correct nickel planchet. Easiest way is to weigh it. Nickel
planchet is the only one at 5.0 grams.

I have one that's also solid black and with no mint mark. Is there any way of dating these coins ? Also Thanks for the info. I had been wondering about the color and now I know.
