Hello Coin Talk members, I have just received this note and wanted to know if it is worth having it graded. Red book price on this note is up there a little, so I am asking for some advice. No pinhole or rips in this note but a small rust spot on the reverse. $_57.JPG $_57 (1).JPG

$50 or so to grade it, it seems to be kind of a rare note. My first reason for having it graded would be for preserving it. This note has a few little spots on the front as well. Maybe someone from CGA or PMG or PCGS can help ~ Thanks

Or you send it in on an economy submission for $20, five note minimum. Grades VF at best and if there is anything they see as a problem it will get a "net" or apparent. Nothing jumps out at me as special on that note. I would check HA for recent auction records or Track and Price, you get a free trial for a month.

4th edition Red Book is at $470 in a 20 grade and $750 in a 40 grade. I know that the Red book is just a guide to go by.

I am thinking VF 25 or 30, maybe in the $300 range. I don't know

I'd wager the rust would get it an Apparent grade. Worth having grading to protect it if you get it on a discount grading submission as mentioned before, or want it in a registry set, otherwise a simple mylar sleeve is just as good.

Yours has less bright paper and many circulation bumps, plus the spots, but your note looks to be better centered of both face and back than the note in the HA lot, and centering is a key factor in determining value, too.

If you really like this note but want something nicer, I would try to upgrade and offload this note eventually due to the various wear and problems.

A major currency dealer who specializes in high denoms. says he doesn't get anything graded unless it is really necessary. When you are looking to sell, just list on ebay at the high end and then consider offers.

That sounds pretty good, I just listed it. $40 grading fee for a note worth a few hundred dollars is probably not worth it ~ Thanks

Nice note, would not grade unless you got it affordably done (like $20). Will come back likely very low VF with foxing/stains/rust notation, which won't help you sell it but will cut into your pocket. You won't touch the ha.com shown in this thread, last one sold on ha.com sold for $70, it was a VG10. Yours is in between.
