Hi, everyone - If I may have a moment or two, I am hoping for some insight regarding a 1913P Type 1 Buffalo Nickel within my collection. I feel somewhat knowledgeable about Morgan Dollars and Peace Dollars, but Buffalo Nickels aren't my forte, and this particular coin, among other Buffalo Nickels, was handed down to me by a late relative who had a big yet disorganized collection of Buffalo Nickels. There were some uncirculated ones in the bunch, but a lot of the Nickels were worn dateless and in poor shape, to be honest. It's just, THIS particular Nickel has long stood out to me because the details look so cleanly stamped, to the point where I feel like it might be an uncirculated coin, but what throws me off is that the luster that I've come to expect from uncirculated coins just isn't there, it has a matte look. I know that 1913P Buffalo Nickels did come in Proof form with a sandblasted matte finish, BUT I also know how exceedingly rare those Nickels are for anyone to have in their collection, so in all reality, I'm 99.9% certain that the Proof version is not what I have, but at the same time, the coin has piqued my curiosity having such sharp details without any luster, and it doesn't appear to be cleaned or polished either. I attached some photos, a couple outdoors under sunlight, one under shade, and one photo w/ the Buffalo Nickel next to an uncirculated War Nickel just to illustrate my point that the Buffalo Nickel doesn't have that uncirculated luster despite its sharp details. I know it's tough to be conclusive via photo. And admittedly, I once submitted a coin for a formal grading, and I ended up spending more for the grading process than the coin was worth lol, so it was a lesson learned, and that's why I figure it can't hurt to ask a question here, and see if someone might be kind enough to enlighten me because, as much as I like to occasionally consider myself knowledgeable about coins, I probably am a novice by many people's definition, in all fairness. Thanks!!
I agree - except I will add it does look it had an acid dip. Looks so pitted in the pictures. Could just be the pictures themselves.
I appreciate that, all! Yeah, the photos that I took directly under the sunlight created kind of a distortion, almost a corroded look.
