1913 S Buffalo Nickel Type. 1 - Small Mint Mark?

Hiya everyone,

I recently bought this and noticed it had a mint mark, but a fairly week one. I'm able to clearly see the S, but it seems to be smaller than others? Many that I've been looking at have the MM in a lot higher position than mine, while the one on mine is almost touching the rim and a lot smaller.

Any comments on why it's like this? Or am I just hallucinating? :goofer:

I see what you are talking about, but that is it. I do not think it is a mint mark - not an expert on these.

I doubt it is a mintmark, the position is too low, I cannot make out the "S" but what is weird is that I can make out a "D"
Either way my vote is for no MM.

Sorry, that's no mintmark. Love those Type 1's though, even with a little wear.

 

Well these 55 y/o baby blues see an "S" and to me it's an S. however I have seened the same weak marks on other coins. I have a half dime that I can see an s that is very weak but again an S to my eyes.

 

Put it on Ebay under " guess the MM" and bid accordingly.
