my latest purchase. this one is toughy and a curve ball what do you think this will grade. think before you answer this one is a real curve ball.
I'd take a stab at it but incuse designs give me a hard time with grading...great looking coin though.
im guessing au-58 or ms-62 becuase i think i see alittle wear and the fields are rough but i dont know how to grade incuse coins at all
The only way I can detect luster breaks on these is to have 'em in hand and rotate 'em under the light. I think PCGS called it either an AU58 or MS61.
it has visted 3 times for an upgrade and no it didnt make it to 63 i would definitely like to see where u think wear is
As I said, on the high points. Now all I have to go by are pics, may be different in hand. All I can do is call 'em as I see 'em.
The coin looks like it has really nice luster. The high poin rubs are just surface friction and are acceptable for a 62 coin. From the images, I think it is graded accurately. If you look at Saints for example, even 64 and 65 coins will have high-point friction.
i dont have this in hand yet either. i will definitely look at those areas when i get the coin in hand. any other suggestions? thanks.
Spock: I thought that it was a 63, but then, I concede to Doug. (I really don't, but I thought that I'd make him feel good.)
I've found with gold, it's easy to confuse bright spots for wear, in-hand grading is the only accurate way to grade it. Ben
Nice Coin!! I also have a couple of MS62 Indians that I thought were for sure upgrade candidates, but no luck with either one. For some reason the grading services seem to be tough on the gold pieces - possibly because there is usually a big price jump between 62 and 63. At any rate, they are still beautiful coins. Dan
...and no luck with the piece in question on this thread. I don't think it has a shot at 63... way too much stuff in the fields.
