I bought this nickel at FUN & just got it back from PCGS. I did not peek at the grade online so it was quite exciting to open the package. I suspect the toning will arouse some interest & debate over the grade at CT. The coin is quite bright & has petty nice peripheral toning. There are scratches all over the brand new PCGS plastic as marked in one photo. Sorry but the photos don’t accurately depict the plethora of colors which are intermingled with the Champaign/gold color. If you guess the grade, you do not win the coin. However, you do get bragging rights. I’ll post the PCGS slab tomorrow night. Very best regards, Collect89
nice strike, I presume that hte color is accurate? Okay: Doug: AT all the way. Doug: see, I saved you the time & effort. Me: MS-65? I don't see any black spots, I hate those. Nice strike. yup, I'll go MS-65. And, you bought is without know the grade? Or you bought it and had it slabbed?
I'll agree with MS64 . I would get a new holder for that as well. Hard to sell in that defaced encapsulation.
I was going to say 63 as well, but I really know nothing about these nickels. Is this the one you showed me at FUN? It was great to see in hand and appreciate the toning which is rare on these. Keep an eye out for that toned 1893 for me please, fellow Dan.
Ahh, you remember the nickel(s). I bought two MS 1912-S nickels at FUN. This one I sent to PCGS. The other I bought in a white NGC slab. I'll take some pictures of both & post them in a few moments.
I would contact PCGS and explain that the encapsulation was damaged during shipping and see if perhaps they might accommodate you with a replacement. It's a shame to have a nice coin as that hidden behind that damage. The packaging it seems was far less than adequate to say the least.
I guess MS64, it's one of the coins that I want, but no money for it. Nice coin! Hard to find in that condition
