1911 Nickel

I have this nickel and I have no idea what happened to it. Is there any reasonable explanation for what these numbers are, or just something some idiot did to ruin the coin?

Al already noted just someone playing at making something with a coin.

 

He didn't ruin the nickel. It was probably still a circulating nickel at the time he decided to punch the numbers and after he did it still worked as a nickel.
